Private Division: Group Selection

If you are applying for private lessons, you must first select your division from 3 groups: Amateur, Associate, and Elite. Each division has a different goal in skill level, amount of dedication, and achievement. It also specifies a level of participation required to maintain in the chosen division. The candidate’s age, talent, skill level, and previous training do not have any impact in selecting a division group, the choice comes from you only. However, during the year when the requirements are not met (eg. not able to keep up the required practice minutes), you will be advised to transfer to an appropriate division.

The instructor works closely towards your choice of a division to meet your goals. It also dismisses any ambiguity and imbalance towards common questions such as why you may not have as many achievements (eg. you have nothing to write on your college application regarding your achievement in piano) when you had not put the right amount of practice time, or you’ve had too many other activities going on for all these years. You will be able to upgrade to a higher division upon approval from your instructor if you feel that you have been motivated enough to put more dedication, at any time of the year.

The division categories have been carefully developed to help you build the right path in the discipline, and scholarships are available to support hard-working students. Please take time to read and understand what each selection means to you and your goals.
